God's Special Young Man

Betweeen Christmas and New Years Peggy and I visited a dear friend. Her brother lives across the road from her. They are our friends also. They have a grandson whom I will call Jack, living with them who is severely handicapped. When he was born the doctors expected him to live only a few months. He is now 29. God had plans for this special guy.

The world (those who do not hold to the Christian view of the value of every life) would have wanted him aborted before birth. However, the Christ born in a stable treasures Jack as one of His outstanding followers. Here are some of the reasons.
Jack is a devoted member of his wonderful church. No doubt, Jack is one of their most valuable members.

He works two days per week at a grocery store. He is proficient in using his computer. These are just a few of the things that he does to serve his Lord through his church. He sent every church family (a rather large church) a Christmas card that he designed; sends everyone a birthday card; sends cards to absentees; calls shutins; sang in the Christmas cantata after memorizing it in its entirety.
Last year he set a goal of $500 to be raised by collecting aluminum cans. The church people saved their cans for him. He raised almost $400 and gave it all to the church. He didn’t start until March and hopes this year to exceed his goal.

The last time we saw Jack on Thursday at suppertime, he told us that he had made two cards that day to send to two people that he knew who were going through some difficult times. He put the poem “Footprints” on the cards. Peggy and I have one of the beautiful Christmas cards that he made.

Yes, our Lord was born in a stable so that the likes of Jack would know that they are as important and as loved as anyone. Jack is as important to God as the most brilliant person in the world. God values all people, the richest and the poorest. He has a purpose and plan for all He has created.
